Blasting
Blasting is a pricey option, but used as a last resort when nothing else can break apart the rock. Unfortunately we ended up with sort of a band of "green stone" rock cutting across the driveway. This stone is known to be extremely hard, much harder than granite. We were getting nowhere pounding on it with the big jack-hammer, so decided to call in the guys with the dynamite.
A couple days of drilling all the holes first. You can see they're all marked as to how deep we need to go. The deepest was six feet.
In go the charges, one section at a time.
Heavy mats made from 1" diameter steel elevator cable are laid on top of the blast area to keep things contained.
